Collaborative research ventures (CRVs) are larger research programs (approx. $750,000) that run over a three year period. Programs are headed by a program director, and satellite projects are funded under the auspice of the CRV. AHURI nationally has completed three CRVs:

21st century housing careers and Australia's housing futures
-
housing affordability for lower income Australians
Research project funding is provided through an annual competitive funding round in August-October each year and through research tenders that are issued at other times during the year. The main research funding priority areas are:
- Housing assistance programs
- Housing futures
- Program integration and housing assistance
- Affordable housing
- Urban management and infrastructure
- Indigenous housing
- Homelessness and marginal housing
- The housing system
- The policy horizon
